Christian Art: Realist Movement

Romanticism had its day and art had to progress. This is largely due to the fascination with realistic subjects and accurate depictions of matters. This was also partly because of the social conditions during the Industrial Revolution, which triggered interest in realism, being the subject matter outside traditional art. Thus, the art movement Realism was born in France when French Realist artists went out to provinces to fully grasp what “real France” is. There, they set up in places such as Grez-sur-Long and Pont-Aven. Below are common characteristics of Realist art.
